What is a
Natal Chart? - By Tim Metcalfe
1) In order to describe what a natal chart is it is best to first grasp the concept of what is astrology?
One definition of astrology would be to say that it is the direct correlation of the movement of the planets and the human experience. The planets move around the solar system at a mathematically predictable rate so that astronomers and astrologers are able to pin point at any moment in time exactly where the planets are at that moment in time. With all of the celestial bodies moving at different speeds the configuration of the planets is ever changing allowing the archetypal feelings and characteristics of those planets to align and merge together with an infinite amount of permutations and combinations with regard to their combined effect on the human emotional, psychological, physical and spiritual experience.
You are born at one moment in place and time. That place and time is unique to you.
I quote Dr Carl Jung when I say
“Anything born at that moment in time has the qualities of that moment in time”
So that is what your natal chart is, it’s a blueprint or schematic of your birth time and place and the configuration of the planets at that time and place specific to you. Where was the sun at that moment?, where was the moon at that moment?, where was Neptune at that moment?. What’s the relationship between those planets? These are the kind of questions you must ask to begin the interpretation of the natal chart.
By interpreting this blueprint, astrologers can give an accurate description of a persons character, what hobbies a person may be drawn to, whether they would suit traveling, what natural innate gifts and abilities they have and also what obstacles they may have to conquer along the way or possibly not wish to face. Almost magically, a full character analysis can be attained from your personal natal chart.
As an astrologer the most likely and annoying question you get asked is:-
What does the future hold for me?
Unfortunately we cannot predict the future and don’t pretend to try and do so. What we can do however is predict the potential trends that a person is likely to encounter in their lifetime. To do this we look at the cosmic configuration of the planets in your personal natal chart. We are, all of us, unique!
